Signs of Depression
Depression is a serious mental illness that affects people and many think depression is just about being sad. However, depression can cause a lot of symptoms in the body and mood. Depression is a risk factor for heart disease and dementia.
According to WHO, over 300 million people currently
live with depression in the world but nearly half of them are not getting the help they need.
It is very normal to feel down sometimes, but when
you are feeling down most of the time then you may have depression. In other to be diagnosed with depression your symptoms must have presented
themselves every day for at least two weeks
Depression is associated with the feeling of low
mood and lack of interest in day-to-day activities. The individual experiencing
depression will suddenly withdraw from activities which they normally find
interest in.
Scientifically depression is defined as a mood
disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest.
Depression can be caused by events that happen in our lives and also can be
caused by chemical changes in the brain.
Depression affects how you feel, think, and do daily

Genetic Factors or Environmental Factors

are formed right from our mother’s womb and these genetic factors cannot be
modified but can be managed. A family history of depression can increase the
risk of depression in people
Environmental factors: these include stress, death
or loss, abuse, illness, substance abuse, low self-esteem, anxiety, loneliness.
How to know if you have depression?

symptoms of depression are:

sleeping or oversleeping

Depression is very dangerous it drains your strength
and makes it difficult for you to do things to make you feel better. It can be
very difficult to take action when you are depressed, however; if you find
yourself wrapped around it there are small steps to take that will lead you
into recovery.
